A Gothic Challenge: Exeter Cathedral

Exeter Cathedral is located within the heart of the city of Exeter, one of the most visited places within the West Country. The building is one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in the country featuring the longest uninterrupted stretch of decorated vaulting in the world. In addition to the regular services held at the site the Cathedral has been providing education facilities for schools for more than 25 years. These facilities have been situated in two rooms off the cloisters within the Cathedral, however, thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), the upper floor of the cloisters will be transformed into a dedicated learning space, providing modern learning facilities whilst retaining the historic legacy of the building.

High Flyers Protected On The Ground

A large Ministry of Defence base in Southern England is now protecting its US Air Force personnel with Apollo Fire Detection equipment in its onsite military accommodation. Global Fire Services (GFS) were commissioned to refit equipment in more than 500 of the base's single room dormitories, replacing a legacy system which gave the base limited insight into any potential fire risks.

Keeping London's Iconic Landmarks Safe This Summer

Apollo fire detectors are now playing an integral part in keeping an iconic building on London's South Bank safe. Members of the Apollo Partner Plus initiative, Drax Services, has recently been working with the Coin Street Community Builders (CSCB) to develop a design proposed by Environmental Design Associates and install a system for the Oxo Tower Wharf. The Oxo Tower has been a riverside landmark since the 1930s but entered a new lease of life in the 1990s when CSCB refurbished it into the mixed-used development it is today.

Apollo Fire Detector’s technology has been chosen to protect Waymade Healthcare Plc’s new pharmaceutical products storage facility in Basildon, Essex. Fisk Fire Group Ltd, which has represented Apollo for more than 20 years, was appointed by Waymade Healthcare to supply, install, commission and maintain a complete L1 system to protect the warehouse’s purpose built racking systems.

Eurotec Safety Services, who have been representing Apollo for more than 20 years, won the contract for the supply and commissioning of the fire system.

Range of Apollo Detectors Chosen to Protect Council Headquarters

Fire detectors from Apollo’s Discovery, XPander and XP95 ranges have been chosen to protect West Sussex County Hall, Chichester, the headquarters of West Sussex County Council. The contract for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of the fire detection system was awarded to Southern Fire Alarms Ltd, acting as a specialist sub-contractor to the main contractor, Willard Electrical Services (1981) Ltd.

Apollo protects Australian Prison

Brisbane Women’s Correctional Centre and Wolston Correctional Centre, both located at Wacol in Queensland, Australia, have been equipped with a new Apollo-based fire detection system as part of an upgrade to the existing system. Ampac, who have been representing Apollo in the region since 1993, were responsible for designing and supplying the system, whilst Dayshelf Fire Systems were tasked with installation.

Apollo fire detection technology has been chosen to protect Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery and the Royal Norfolk Regimental Museum. T&P Fire Ltd, which has represented Apollo for more than 15 years, was appointed by Norfolk Property Services to replace the existing fire protection with an open protocol system. Eddie Bean, Technical Manager at T&P Fire Ltd, says: “We have always advocated the open protocol approach, because it offers flexibility of product choice and better whole life costs. We recommended Apollo technology due to the high quality, range and reliability of Apollo products, which satisfied all of our client’s requirements for this historic site.”

Apollo Technology Protects Slovenian Parliament

A new fire detection system based on Apollo technology has been chosen to protect the Slovenian Houses of Parliament; the home of the National Assembly and National Council. The contract for the fire detection system was awarded to Zarja Elektronika d.o.o., who have represented Apollo in Slovenia for over 20 years.
