Apollo centres upon Orbis: the next generation of conventional fire detectors

Orbis, Apollo's new generation of conventional fire detectors, will take centre stage at Fire Expo South. The Orbis range has been developed from first principles in close consultation with system installers, specifiers and building occupants to meet a number of industry requirements for simplicity, reliability and elegance of design. It includes an optical smoke detector, multisensor smoke detector, three classes of static heat detector and three classes of rate-of-rise heat detector. There is a standard, electronics-free base, plus a diode base and a relay base.

Developed specifically to provide high quality conventional detection in small to medium size installations, the Orbis range offers a wealth of new features to save time, enhance reliability and reduce false alarms. These include StartUp, which confirms that the devices are installed in the correct polarity, a DustDefy system that prevents dust ingress while maintaining airflow and FasTest, a maintenance procedure that takes just four seconds to test and confirm that smoke and heat detectors are functioning correctly.

Apollo will also display new additions to its range of ancillary devices. Chief among these is a Loop-powered Beacon that will help consultants and specifiers fulfil their legal obligations under the UK Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) by providing a visual as well as an audible alarm in an emergency. The device is based on a detector casing, with a red diffuser replacing the smoke lid. This gives the beacon a wide angle of visibility, while its use of LEDs instead of xenon makes it highly reliable. If triggered by an alarm, the device flashes once a second. The Apollo beacon is compatible with the company's XP95 and Discovery ranges of intelligent fire detectors and uses the same XPERT address system. It can be used either as a stand-alone device, or as a combination sounder/beacon.

The company will also exhibit its three ranges of intelligent fire detectors. These include XPlorer, a range of entry-level analogue fire detectors; the established XP95 range and Discovery - the latest range of intelligent fire detectors to be introduced by the company.
