Evans Easyspace is a flexible property service aimed at start-up companies and SME's who need to rent quality office and workshop space without being tied to a long lease arrangement. Tenants can rent anything from 150 – 1,000sq ft of office space and between 500 – 2,000sq ft of workshop space.

The flexible nature of the service posed potential problems because each new tenant may present new requirements. This was overcome by using detectors from the XP95 range. "The range includes ionisation and optical smoke detectors, a temperature detector, a multisensor detector and a wide range of interfaces and sounders. These will cover most of the conditions you would expect to encounter in regular commercial premises. It's therefore very useful to know that there are other products in the range that meet specific requirements, such as a flame detector and a beam detector for covering large areas like atria and open-plan business units, and that Apollo runs an excellent technical back-up should we need to consult them at any time," explained Gary Mitchell from FMS.

Another advantage XP95 offers is the ease with which the system could be configured and modified to suit tenant requirements with the patented XPERT address card. This enables detector location information to be held in the base, rather than the detector head itself. This allows "once only" programming of detector locations, making initial system installation quick and easy. Changes in use can also be made easily because the card is only read by the detector head once it is plugged in allowing the flexibility to change, say, a heat detector to a smoke detector, if the occupant's business activities require it, without any complicated reconfiguring of the fire system.

Future extension or upgrading of the fire systems – as Evans Easyspace continues to expand – is also easy to achieve. Apollo uses the same open, digital protocol for all its intelligent detectors, whether existing or under development. This enables users to extend or upgrade their system at any time, confident in the knowledge that the existing and new products will be fully compatible.
